ARTISTIC EXPRESSION
I create to explore and exhibit the subtleties of our ever-present divinity, revealing hidden realities in ordinary people and scenes. My original techniques are developed from emulating traditional styles of painting in the digital medium. These methods allow me to use multiple painting techniques in one artwork which could be considered impossible in conventional art practices.
FEATURED SERIES
GIANT STEPS
This portrait series ensemble uncovers my ancestral roots through Los Angeles’ historic centennial jazz society. In creating my award-winning image “Giant Steps”, I was inspired to create an art series exploring Los Angeles as a Black musical genius mecca. I began to research the story of particularly jazz music in LA and in the process discovered a new dimension of my hometown and my own connections to the larger threads of the Black experience.
RECENT COMMISSIONS
Recent commissions include Los Angeles Metro to create a portrait titled “Blue Sights” for the “More People Than You Know” Art series exhibited on hundreds of digital kiosks throughout the A-Line Light Rail stations. The trend continued in 2019. I was chosen as the inaugural artist to create “Giant Steps” for Councilman Curren D. Price Jr’s 24th Central Avenue Jazz Festival Art Poster. And again, in 2021, I made “Greensleeves” for the 26th Central Avenue Jazz Festival Art Poster. In the past year, I was chosen by Outward Bound Adventures and Patagonia’s Environmental Justice Window Project to create a window mural “Modern Explorers / Diversify The Outdoors” for two of their southern California flagship stores.
